For me roller derby is more than just hitting and looking awesome. Those are actually pretty small pieces of the whole derby equation for me. The thing I love most about ECDD is that we are community involved. You’ll catch us having fundraisers, helping out at blood drives, or sponsoring families during the holidays. You’ll even find us skating marathons to support the community and each other. We may wear fishnet tights to practice. We may have intimidating names. But we’re athletes, and we’re girls that really value the role we play in our community. Being a small league, I feel proud that so many of our efforts go towards being helpful to others. It also gives us the chance to get involved in fun events like the soapbox derby, and motorcycle swap meets. When it comes to roller derby you know you’ll see the girls on the track, what I love about ECDD is that you will also see us helping out wherever we are needed.

Roller derby has changed my life. Im working out and losing weight but
more importantly I am gaining self confidence in my everyday life. I
feel like a whole new person. Im part of a team, an awesome team,
that's supportive and completely understanding and helpful. I, for
once, am doing something for myself and am loving it. This is making
me stand taller and feeling prouder (is that a word?) in life and the
self confidence is making me stand up for myself which I haven't been
able to do in 27 years. ECDD has changed me for the better...and Im so
thankful for that :)
